Research interests
|
| My professional areas of interest are computer science, software development and computational intelligence - especially knowledge representation formalisms, automated reasoning, annotation of multimedia documents, information retrieval and Semantic Web. My other prominent area of interest is astronomy and, in particular, Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence (SETI). |
Current work
|
| I'm currently working on an intelligent generator of emotionally-annotated images which can be used in research of human-computer interfaces, affective computing, cognitive sciences and many other conjoining areas. This software tool uses ontologies for formal presentation and interference about image semantics, emotion and metadata. To test the software I have developed new upper ontology Stimulus Ontology and converted existing databases of emotionally annotated images such as International Affective Picture Systems (IAPS), The Geneva Affective PicturE Database (GAPED) or NimStim Face Stimulus Set to the new ontology-based format. The generator was designed to help psychotherapists and similar domain experts to construct personalized high-quality stimuli sequences with less effort and in less time, and at the same time helping them to focus on the subject by alleviating the need for repetitive and unnecessary work with complicated computer software. In comparison to exposure in vivo, the described tool and the constructed stimuli sequences for computer-based exposure offer many benefits such as: greater safety to the exposed subject, greater flexibility and adaptability and reduced costs. Apart from still images, the same ontology-supported paradigm may be extended to formal annotation and intelligent retrieval of video clips, virtual reality scenes, sounds, and other multimedia formats. The software is written in C#.NET and C++, uses multithreading for near real-time operation (i.e. soft real-time constraints), multiple monitors with HMD support for the operator and subject and can be deployed on a single desktop or mobile computer. |

Minor mish-mash of a slightly more memorable quotations |

Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something.

There will come the time when attentive researches conducted through
long eras will bring out to the surface what now lays hidden. A single
lifetime, even if entirely devoted to the heaven, would not be enough
to study something so vast… And so will the knowledge flourish only
after a long list of epochs. Then will come the time when our ancestors
will be amazed that we didn't know things that are completely clear to
them. Many discoveries are kept for times that are yet to come, when
memories of us have already faded. Our world would be a pitiful place
if there wouldn't be enough to offer for research in each epoch. Nature
doesn't reveal her secrets all at once and to everybody.

An idea is always a generalization, and generalization is a property of thinking. To generalize means to think.
